now try to give you a synopsys of what I learned.
As you know;) myths are always part of the cultural identity. They show how people
live and what they believe what the world is like. It´s all about the questions:

Where are we from? How are we made? Was there a divinty at the
beginning or chaos and nothing? Did it all happend by chance? Happend it all
one time or is it cyclic and periodic? By telling the story of the creation of
all things, people define the world and answer the question: „why“?

The Edda is the collection of germanic
narration about the creation of the world. They mainly come from Scandinavia
and Island, but have also christian influences. (Because they where written down much later,
after the germanic tribes nearly disappeared and nothern europe got christian)

In
the beginning there was nothing. The “[gap ginnunga]“ which means a gap, a gorge, a nothing with a
somehow magical spirit in it.

Then
there was Fire and Ice. The giant Ymir was built from these two antipodes. From
him originate all giants, gods and later human beings.

From
melted ice there came also in being [Audhumbla] the “primary cow” a maternal creature.

From
here udder came milk, four streams of milk, four rivers which flowed in the
four cardinal points.

She,
herself fed herself by licking ice and by this there came a human creature from
the ice: [Buri]. Buri had a son: [Borr]. Borr had a wife- the giant [Bestla] (she was from Ymirs sweat) and they made: [Odin], [Vili] and [Vé].

These
three killed Ymir.Ymir fall apart in his “single components” and it was made
the sky from his skin and brain, the sea from his blood, the ground from his
flesh, the mountains from his bones and the plants from his hair.

Now
the world was made and humans arose. They are (besides Buri- who his made from
the licked Ice) made from wood/ trees.

A
tree- the word-tree carries the world, connects the „empire“ of the gods with
the empire of humans as well as the “underground”.

In
the firmament there was formed the sun,
the stars and the gods made the day-night frequency.
;)
